NOT YOUR AVERAGE SUBWAY TILE

I love finding new and fun ways to use materials. I often task our team with looking for new sources for unique options to present to our clients. I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit envious of the options available in the US market vs. the Canadian market - but it just makes us work harder to find the treasures!

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good subway tile. Give me all the classic ways to present materials and I’m on board.

I’m also a designer - so looking for creative ways to amp up a classic space is totally my jam. Classic checkerboard floor? Sure, but make it different tones of marble instead of black and white. Traditional home with high ceilings and classic mouldings? How about a modern light for contrast? Or an oversized fixture to play with scale?

Today’s blog post is dedicated to my love of tile. I’m a Neutral Nancy by heart, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun with it. Below are some of my favourites.

Please allow me to use some of these in your home ;)

This beautiful fireplace design by Noa Santos has the tile gradually getting narrower. The vertical orientation emphasizes the height.

We typically want to minimize grout - but what if we used it as a design feature? This beauty zellige tile installation by Mooi Creative does just that.

We’re loving the use of colour to create stripes in this design by Elizabeth Roberts Architecture. This installation uses a smaller scale tile on the floor for added interest and texture.

Who says you need rhyme or reason? These textured, tumbled tiles suit this random installation perfectly. Design by Handelsmann + Khaw.

Natalie Myers of Veneer Designs uses two different tile depths to create tone on tone texture. We’re not mad about it!
